Wilson Dyna-Lite Steel Umpire Mask
As a veteran umpire with in excess of 4k games and levels up to D2, the Wilson Dyna-Lite masks are indeed the standard to which all other umpire masks are measured. As others have stated, the MLB harness really is the best harness. FYI on ridiculous hot days I switch over to my All-Star "can" to avoid needing a hat. The heavier the mask, the more durable, and better at offsetting inertia. Wilson Dyna-Lite has a ton of aftermarket pads if you find you like foam, leather wrap, or Team Wendy. I have this mask and the more expensive Aluminum Dyna-Lite with Team Wendy pads. Between the Wilson Gold West Vest and this DynaLite mask it makes for a really great foundation for protection. Visibility is great with both versions since the shape is the same.
Great for beginner umpires.
I've used this mask for two seasons and I'm overall happy with it. I swapped out the Wilson pads for TW. It is a bit heavy, especially if you like the throat guard, but without the guard, it's a doable mask. In terms of protection, it's been great. The only thing I'd change in design for this mask is adding an extension for the top of the head, kind of like the Champro Magnesium, +POS Magnesium, or the Diamond mask. I've been hit on the top of my cap button with a foul ball, and it was horrible. Long story short, great mask for good price.
