These shoes are very comfortable! Excellent product!
The first time I put a plate shoe on I took one to the foot. So glad my partner had an extra old pair for me to have. They were also a little small and I looked forward to buying my own pair. I have been wearing them around the house this winter to break them in. I bought a half size larger than I normally wear and they fit perfectly. I lucked out on the price as I saw the black Friday deal, but even at full price I am more than pleased. I know what I am getting my foot into and also know when I take my foot back out my toes will be in one piece.
Great shoe. Feels real good, and has a lot of support just like wearing any New Balace shoe. Comfortable and can stay on the dish all day long in this shoe. I've had Reebok before but they were too stiff and hard wearing. Love this shoe.
Nice plate shoes. Only used for 1 game, so far so good. I think I may have liked the low cut better.
Recently purchased a pair of the New Balance MLB Umpire Plate shoes. These were replacing a pair of patent leather plate shoes that I have had for over 20 years. These are much lighter and have a much more athletic feel. I watched the video of these on Ump-attire.com where they shot a 90 mile an hour fast ball at them and the person wearing them didn't even feel it. These will do great, and due to their lighter weight, will make long days at the ballpark much easier on my feet and legs. Highly recommend!
Well built plate shoe so far so good. Will continue to use and update this review.
These plate shoes offer excellent protection and are fairly easy to clean due to the large, smooth facing. I polish mine with a bit of coconut oil and it really brings out a good shine! The one complaint I have is that they are shoelace eaters, so be sure to keep an extra set of laces on hand.

These New Balance plate shoes are great. I'm glad they come in a 4E. Very happy with them.
Great shoe! I was a Reebok zig guy and when those started falling apart I was forced to buy these because of the discontinuation of Reebok and for the fact that I didn't want 3N2's. I love the support that I get with these, and they really aren't as heavy as people say. I feel a lot more comfortable behind the plate knowing my ankles are protected and the metatarsal plate doesn't move around like it did on the Reeboks. I'll be sticking to New Balance plate shoes for awhile.

Great product. Very comfortable, but would advise using a shoe horn to put them on.

This is my second pair of NB umpire plate shoes. This model is a drastic upgrade from the previous one (about 6 years ago): it has a larger protective plate, a better lacing route through the top of the plate, and the plate is connected to the toe of the show with a permanent strap (instead of the failing studs from before that wore off). They're easy to spray/wipe clean with foaming cleaner after each game, and they hold a polish for long-term protection. They get 5-stars for the improvements alone, on top of being the best available on the market. I expect to have mine for at least 5 seasons (doing roughly 30-40 games/year).
Great plate shoe, only used them for one game however, it was very comfortable. I just need to break them in more.

Hit or miss with the shoes...I previously owned a pair of the same exact plate shoes that last me 1 yr after having the toe of the right shoe dismembered from the rest of the shoe, could not repair and NB will not do anything to ease the burden...I bought this new pair simply because I could not find the Reebok Magistrate II in my size anywhere!!!! So I am stuck with these until I can get a pair of the Reebok's which by far is a better product than NB, in my opinion...
First pair of plate shoes, and I'm very impressed.
Had these for 2 full seasons now. Fantastic umpire plate shoe! Wide toe box is very comfortable to crouch and move in. There was no snug or rubbing feeling and I am using the 13 4e size. The only issue I had was that the leather piece that connects the metatarsal guard to the toe started to tear. It was not a safety concern, but bothered me being less than a year old. I called customer service and they took care of me right away. I purchased a new pair, sent the old ones in, and they credited me back. That kind of service right there, guys, is why Ump-Attire.com is the best.
Love the New Balance plate shoes - Comfortable - I have wide feet and these fit me very well - provide excellent protection in my opinion and easier to clean than the Reeboks that I had previously.
Couldn't be happier. Full protection for my feet and this pair allows me to remove the lower flaps on my shinguards and not suffer any loss in protection. They also take a nice shine for those tournament level games!
North Charleston, SC
Again, these are New Balance shoes. All of my shoes are NBs because I find their width fit the best for my feet. I normally wear a 9.5 shoe but in my umpire shoes I go with size 10. They are lightweight and easily cleaned, and provide the utmost in protection. This is my third pair of the MU460. The only drawback is that you need to have a shoehorn to put them on, but, they are not as difficult to put on as the MU450s.
Here in Italy, all the men in blue in the world of baseball wear New Balance umpire shoes. These shoes are the ultimate in durability, strength and protection. I make the change only after five years, during which I umpire an average of about 100 games each year. They give you that sense of security that does not make you lift or move your legs when you get a ground ball, a good umpire should never do. Therefore I recommend to everyone, starting with their first appearances in court, wearing New Balance shoes. A big thank you to the staff of Ump Attire.com for their professionalism, punctuality and....... sympathy. Umpire Rosano Maurizio from Italy

These are the only plate shoes I have ever worn. They are sturdy, comfortable, reliable and protective. They clean up great and look very professional. I've taken my fair share of foul balls and pitches in the dirt off these shoes and never worry about dings or bruises. I won't wear anything else!
Jensen Beach, FL
Very good plate shoe. Since purchased I have umpired 3 games and very happy with the comfort and feel. Much better than the previous plate shoe "spot built" that I used for many years. I will also add, they are true to size.
Pro: Easy to clean due to patent-like plastic uppers. Decent traction and good outer sole. Comfortable when new. Light weight. Cons: Cheaply constructed as this is pretty much a plastic gym shoe worth $40-50 with a $70 metatarsal hinge flap. Inner sole is flimsy and deteriorates quickly. Doesn't handle odor as well as others. Outer edge of metatarsal support flap frays and wears easily. Summary: NB pays well for the MLB endorsement as MLB umpires only wear these 2 games every 10 days for solo games. For those of us who do 40+ games per month it would be nice if there was a more substantial offering. After 2 pair of 460's I opted for a full leather shoe with metatarsal support that is not marketed as an umpire shoe.
This is the first plate shoe I have purchased in about 10 years and they are replacing and upgrading my original plate shoe. All in all its a great fit, still trying to break them in after a few weeks but they are very lightweight and a great look as well when polished up. Definitely a great product.
New Balance umpire shoes are my only choice, hands down the best in the business. The soles will wear down long before the rest of the shoe, comfort and durability are unmatched!!
Great shoes! I followed the suggestion of ordering up a size and EE width, very glad I did so. I could tell my feet swelled at the end of games when I changed shoes, but during the games, my feet felt fine.
Edgewater Park, NJ
Very good shoe... super protective and so comfortable. I never work without them.
These shoes are amazing!! They fit extremely well, have great protection, and have been easy to clean and keep looking good. They feel so much lighter than the plate shoes I purchased a few years ago. I love them!
Tunnel Hill, GA
I highly recommend this shoe to any umpires. Light, soft and feels great on my feet. Very satisfied best plate shoes I've bought so far.
Comfortable shoe. Easy to get around in and looks good. Buying shoes on line is always a concern, but sizes are true.
New Milford, CT
Great shoe. Wore for the first time and decided to throw out the old ones. Light and comfortable from the first moment.
Fort Branch, IN
I've worn another brand shoe for 12 years so I was skeptical at first to switch. But I have to say these New Balance plate shoes are better made, lighter and more comfortable than I ever expected. They definitely lived up to all the positive reviews I had ever read.
Awesome shoe! Plated 6 straight hours and my feet never bothered me a bit!!
I have had these plate shoes since they came out Wow!!! I wish I could wear them on the bases they are the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned period!!!!!!!!!
Great item, shoes have held up very well after many uses. Very comfortable, fit true to size.
Just wore these shoes for the first time on Saturday and what a joy! Very comfortable and lightweight, could not be happier!
Unbelievably comfortable! They look like they would be heavy but they're very light. I ordered a half size bigger and they fit perfectly. I wish my work shoes were this comfortable.
Clinton , CT
This is a great shoe. It's light and very comfortable to wear.
Great shoe!! This is my second pair of NB plate shoes. First pair were the NB450. Just put them on yesterday. They feel great!! Only one thing I have fond wrong them are the little loops on the backs likes to catch your pants on there way down. It's kind of knit picking but a pain in the butt and can get in the back of your mind if you let it. Don't let that drive you away. Another great product from NB
These plate shoes are awesome! They are so lite and comfortable. Got the EE size as I have wide (fat) feet. People said they seem to run a 1/2 to 1 size small. Not true in my case. I ordered a 1/2 size big and it's about a 1/2 size big. Love these plate shoes
Salt Lake City, Utah
put them on and love them already like the new attachment for the arch protection nice weight
Bluefield, West Virginia
Great shoe, Much better design then the 450. Light, comfortable and easy to clean!!
Manchester, New York
Comfort is paramount, and these shoes provide it to the max. Strong, lightweight, and the confidence to stand in the slot without worry of getting toe-stomped.
Glad I got this shoe. I went a 1/2 size up per other customer suggestions and glad I did. I feel like I have good room but not too much to where the shoe feels to big. Get down the lines without any problem in these puppies. Overall, a very nice and lightweight plate shoe. Wear what the pros wear!
I still have a pair of the older style of New Balance plate shoes which still look new after 4 seasons. The new style New Balance shoes are lighter with a wider tongue and better laces. They also provide what I can only describe as a "bounce" when on. Easy to clean - just a damp cloth with do to remove dirt and restore shine. I am even more of a believer in these shoes now. I bought EE even though I don't measure as an EE. Better comfort especially if your feet tend to swell.
Good afternoon greetings from Venezuela, I'm Romer Professional Baseball Umpire Diaz to middle Development League and my personal opinion is that the new New Balance 2012 are excellent, super comfortable, lightweight, comfortable and are the best choice in footwear for umpires home plate. I recommend them.
These are the best plate shoes ever. In over 25 years of softball officiating, from 10&U Rec. leagues to NCAA Div.I, I've tried every "latest and greatest" to come down the pike. Having flat feet, I ordered the 4E width. Great breathing room even after I added an extra innersole. This is the first time I've ever rated a product online and would not have done so if this "latest" was not the "greatest.
Just received these shoes a couple of days before the first game of the season and they are comfortable right out of the box. I needed a pair for behind the plate after hearing that one of my partners was hit in the foot which took him out of the game completely. Steel toes are a must in this sport. I love these shoes and would recommend them to anyone who enjoys the sport. Thanks for great service and gear for us umpires.
I have probably owned at least 15 pair of plate shoes in my umpiring career, but I have never worn a pair as comfortable as these are. They are extremely light weight and offer excellent protection, as you might expect, but comfort that is second to none. I wear an 11D shoe and ordered these in 11.5 EEEE and they fit great! I had pair of the 450's and they were no where near as comfortable. Well worth the money.

On a whim, I tried these on, and I wasn't giving them back!! My other plate shoes were only 1 year old--no matter. I got the EEEE's, even though I don't measure as having a wide foot. But after 2-3 plates on a Saturday, my feet swell, and the extra width is a blessing. I got the "white N" version, and simply took a fine tip black Sharpie--now they're all shiny black. At a minimum, get the EE's. Your feet will thank you at the end of the day.
Lake City, Florida
I LOVE THESE SHOES!!!!. Finally got to wear these last night and they are great. At first my feet felt a little tight in them but by the end of the game you would think you were wearing sneakers. I am so glad I purchased these.
Great shoe but took a few games to break in. Great costumer service. Three days and they were here.
San Antonio, Texas
Best shoe out there , make sure to buy at LEAST 1/2 size BIGGER if not a full size.
I used to love the Reebok - now I'm not sure why! Great looking shoe right out of the box, very comfortable. But since they've widen the toe box, order your normal size. I went with a half size bigger, and they are a teeny bit big, but not enough to send back. Love these shoes!

I BOUGHT A PAIR OF THESE NEW STYLE SHOES AND THEY ARE JUST SIMPLY SUPERB! I CURRENTLY USE AND OWN A PAIR OF THE OLDER STYLE NEW BALANCE SHOES AND IN COMPARISON TO THE NEW STYLE SHOES THIS NEWER MODEL IS MUCH LIGHTER, LOOKS BETTER AND OFFERS A GREATER AMOUNT OF PROTECTION TO THE FOOT AS WELL. THE TONGUE IS LARGER TO SHIELD MORE OF THE TOP PORTION OF THE FOOT. BEST NEW BALANCE PLATE SHOE BY FAR, EVER PUT ON THE MARKET. I'M GLAD I OWN A PAIR!!!
Recently received the new New Balance plate shoes after using PlusPos and Honig's shoes for quite some time. First impression was WOW...couldn't believe how light they were and was pleased with the clean lines. Many shoes are patched together making it difficult to polish and keep clean, but these are smooth and took a great polish. The real proof is in the wearing........first time out I worked 14 innings straight and never even thought about my shoes.....most comfortable plate shoes I've ever worn....If they hold up (crossing my fingers) they'll be the best ever!
Kansas City, Missouri
My new shoes arrived today and the thing I was struck by the most was the fact that they felt like they were as light as regular shoes. I'll get to wear them in a game in about a week, so we'll see how they hold up, but my first impression was "Wow!"
