All-Star Cobalt Umpire Skull Cap

Purchased a medium and I wear a 7-1/8" cap. Fit is perfect. Force3 mask fits well. Purchase with confidence.

I bought this helmet to go with my new Force 3 mask. It fits great (I needed an XL for 7 1/4 hat size) and is very comfortable. It also works great with the mask, which has an extra large pad in front and didn’t work as well with a 4-stitch hat. My wife also likes knowing my noggin is a little better protected with a helmet instead of a hat.

Love this. Just started doing JV games and it fits well and makes taking off the mask very easy. Gives me confidence as I have taken a ball off the bean. Recommend.

Finally pulled the trigger on this All-Star Skully and glad I did. It felt like it sat too high on my head when I first put it on but another umpire told me it would form and get properly seated once I took my first cage session and the pads warmed up. Sure enough, 10 minutes in, I forgot it was on and it fits like a glove. My Diamond mask fits perfectly over it and stays in place when I pull my mask off during the course of action. I've worked a couple games behind the plate with it and I'm so glad I bought it!

A friend made me try it and I honestly loved it. You don't really feel it on your head, it is light and it doesn't move. Gives good protection around the head and help absorb impacts. I will maybe start using it.

When I first began wearing a skull cap, I opted for the EvoShield model. Unfortunately, I found the padding to be uncomfortable. Seeking a better option, when I went down to Wendelstedt school, I tried on one of the school’s All-Star skull caps. The difference was remarkable — the pads provided exceptional comfort, and the design was sleek and featured a smaller bill compared to the EvoShield skull cap. It made all the difference in my experience!

This helmet does the job, especially if you’ve taken some hits to the head and you’re susceptible to concussions. I’ve taken some foul balls to the face mask and this helmet does buffer the hit. The inside padding is comfortable and they can Velcro on and off for cleaning/washing. I recommend that you buy a good face mask harness, one that grips well and adjusts to fit the helmet. Overall, this is not about the look but rather about the safety aspect to head/brain injury. Some say it’s easier to clean compared to fitted caps. If I didn’t have head/brain injury, I would go with the cap, more traditional look to our profession (imo).

I got this for the added protection because the hockey style mask would be too hot for me and I’m very happy with it. Now, does it get warm in there?? Yes. Then again, what isn’t?? But, it fits perfectly and it goes great with my Force3 Defender. The matte finish keeps my mask from moving.

I wear a 7 1/2 hat and needed to wear a size Large. Initially tight but formed to my head nicely after a game. Extremely light weight. I use a Force 3 mask and the skull cap mask combo is perfect together. It actually makes the mask feel lighter! Working games in 95+ degrees was actually cooler than my Richardson fitted hat. The hat vents well and the sweat creates a cooling effect on your head. No sweat ran into my eyes throughout each game. Material on the inside managed the sweet extremely well.

I bought this to umpire high school and adult league baseball and it is amazing. I am a 7 3/8 in hat size and the Large fits me perfectly and you can make it tighter if you need to by bunching up the pads and sticking them to the Velcro. Easy to clean with a damp cloth and washing the inside pads is way easier than cleaning a traditional plate hat; unstick them and throw them in the washer but I recommend hang drying them. I have taken direct foul cuts to the mask and have felt nothing and I am certain a back swing will be the same but hopefully that never happens! Well worth the purchase and I cannot recommend this enough.

Well I wore the Skully for the first time and what a difference from the Rawlings skull cap which I have worn for two seasons. The padding inside the helmet makes wearing the helmet very comfortable. The padding can be removed and cleaned. There are air holes around the helmet and allows air flow which is a nice feature when calling a game on the dish especially on a hot summer day. Why did I wait this long? I love the new armour out on the field.

Bought this to eliminate getting hit above the mask. It works great. Better yet, I've paired it with the Force3 traditional mask (V2) and it helps offset the weight of the mask too! I feel safe and confident with this combo!

I've used this for 2 tournaments after I replaced my mask frame after I was tired of washing my hats every weekend and dealing with sweat stains etc. Ventilation is nice and the foam padding is easily maneuverable to fit your head shape and No Sweat liners will fit in it. I personally use this with the Ump Life Ice Cap on really hot days to help keep my head cool. I like the added protection it provides that normal hats just don't. There is a neoprene strap to help secure against this skull cap, but I have found (at least for Diamond) that the original strap does work and stays it place but that could be different when it rains/gets wet. So far, I am very happy with this upgrade.

Extremely satisfied wearing this with my F3 Defender mask. In addition to the protection, it better distributes the weight and feel of the mask off the face pads. 7 3/8ths, bought the size L. It feels tight initially, but the pads will adjust quickly. Love that they are removable and washable. I won't go back to a cap.

Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. I was wearing the hockey-style mask but it's heavy and summers are brutal. I bought the Force3 Defender mask along with this. The top of my head is better protected and the helmet is ventilated well.

Overall I really like this product and it makes me feel much safer on the field. The one downside is that it definitely traps heat and gets pretty hot/sweaty quickly.

I'm a size 7 3/8. The medium was too small and the large was too big. The padding seemed substantial, but even with adjusting it around neither size worked for me. Also, despite my best effort to like the appearance, I can't help but think it looks kind of ridiculous. Disappointing there aren't more skull cap options :(

Happy. Fits perfect, with my EvoShield mask. Followed sizing instructions on the website. Easy to remove and put back on. I have to sort out is when I bend down to clean the plate. Very satisfied with this purchase!! It gives you that 360 protection for your head!! As umpires, we never know when that pop-up is going to come or where it’s going to land for that matter!! Personally, I’ve already had a few, and let’s just say I’m glad I had this on!! Also, believe it or not, it actually saves you a lot of money on your field hats!! We all know how expensive hats are and how quickly they get sweated out from wearing them while working the plate!! Since I’ve gone to this skull hat while working the plate, I’ve saved a small fortune on field hats!! That alone is worth making the switch in my book! Plus you can’t beat the added protection!!! So yes I highly recommend making the switch!! Not only will your wallet thank you, but so will your wife!!

First umpire skull cap had a defect on the padding, Ump-Attire replaced it with no issue. However, I wore mine with my mask in the house before going on field, practiced taking it off, moved around and did not like it. It's going to be hotter and summer arrives. Nice look but not for me.

I had been using a hockey style helmet for the past few years. This is far more convenient and comfortable. So far, the only downside is that it slips off of my head a little too easily. I ordered it in my hat size and the next size down would be too small. You must be a little more careful when removing your mask to track a fly ball or make a call, otherwise the helmet will come off.

Fits my head well and protects well. Fits nicely with the All-Star FM4000k-mag mask.

Loving it. I took a bit of grief from a few people as I was the first in New Zealand to use one of these but after a recent game where a colleague got hit flush in the mask taking his mask and cap off and rocking him significantly, everyone is now thinking that the All-Star Cobalt umpire skull cap is a good idea.

Nice fitting but the bill (for me) is not conducive for my Force3 mask. It changes my window the way I see pitches. If it could be more like a plate cap bill slightly rounded it may be better.

Great airflow! Fits perfect and the material is very light. Yet protective! Good price.

I had a few worries about this, none of which were a problem. First, no one takes a second look when I'm wearing this. Second, it holds onto my head as good or better than a ball-cap. Third, It is light and not bulky at all. I tried the Unequal Uncap before this and was very unhappy with it. This helmet is absolutely perfect. You barely know it is there, and it is cooler temperature wise than a cap!

It takes a bit getting used to at first from a normal hat, but it’s amazing after you get used to it. I had to go to the hospital last year a couple times with concussions, but this year I haven’t gotten a concussion. I also feel much more protected with it on. You get the benefits of a full cage and just the mask. It’s like having the best of both worlds with this skull cap.

I wear a 7 1/4" fitted cap and was not sure if this Skull cap would be snug enough. The large fits perfectly. Removing the All-Star Magnesium mask is quick and easy, the skull cap stays in place. I used a Wilson FX2 helmet previously and this is by far more comfortable to wear. It's been a rainy season so I like keeping the cap on to keep your head drier.

Had to replace my previous batting helmet with the All-Star Cobalt umpire scull cap. Large a little too tight, XL is a little big but with the UMPLIFE Ice Cap works nicely. Stays on very well with taking the mask on and off frequently. Makes for a good combo with a traditional mask.

I think it’s worth every penny. Got hit the first night boy was I glad I had it on!!

I have been using this All-Star Skull Cap the last couple of months during my high school season. I love the snug fit and knowing I have protection for foul balls when working fields with backstop overhangs. Thank you for providing umpires with an extra measure of protection!

I have worn mine for over 500 games during rain or shine, hot or cold, it's an absolute MUST! I originally bought the small and had to return it but needed a new Large on the fly. Ump-Attire.com paid for my overnight shipping! Class Act! I wear a skull sweat cap underneath mine, both wick sweat reasonably well. I take extra care of all my gear and let it air out after each use. I remove and hand wash and dry the inserts regularly and use extra strength fabric Febreze in between games and weekend tournaments. I'll NEVER wear another 4 seam cap again behind the dish.

Haven’t got out on the field with it, but have done many hours of cage work and seeing live pitching and love it. It fits snug at first and then molds to your head comfortably.

I wear 7 3/8 hat. Small one was to tight, large one was to large and floppy, no way to take mask off without it coming off. Had to return both.

Love this All-Star Cobalt skull cap. Never have to buy plate hats again. It's that extra protection without having to go with the hockey style mask. The rough surface keeps my mask harness from slipping off. I tend to sweat a bit more with it so I bought a UMPLIFE Ice Cap to go underneath. Works great.

Great added protection, shorter bill fits more like plate cap you would normally wear. I use it during indoor games as foul balls often find their way straight down on to my head. I had foul tip straight back to mask even less felt than normal. I am impressed. For me, it's much more comfortable than the hockey-style mask with fit and feel. Looking to get couple more to get labeled for the different associations I umpire for. Going to be in my bag for years to come.

I use the Cobalt Skull Cap in conjunction with the All-Star S7 lightweight mask and it’s a great combination. The Skull Cap provides extra protection from errant balls, swings and short backstops; especially seen at the lower level games. This is a great option for those who want to possibly switch from a hockey-style mask to a traditional mask while still retaining some protection for the head.

The helmet offers me an extra layer of protection against errand pitches that catchers don't stop. The helmet is light and is as comfort to wear as my hat. Unlike the goalie style helmet, it allows me to easily pull my mask off without pulling my sunglasses as it does when I'm wearing my hat.

Love it!! Use it with a Force 3 V2 and UmpLife harness. Great fit. Does get warm when temps have been in the 90s and low 100s. Highly recommend for added protection.

Love it. I haven't gotten hit yet but I don't want to jinx it. Get the funny comments from coaches and I tell them "I'm protecting my head from pass and overthrown baseballs, foul tips and the unintentional back swings of batters".

I bought this skull cap in January but waited to write this review until I had used it in hot weather. I am very pleased with how the skull cap handled the heat. The vents in the cap allow me to feel whatever breeze there may be, and the pads inside are highly absorbent. So much so that I think this skull cap may actually be more comfortable in hot weather than a regular umpire ball cap. Meanwhile, I've taken balls to the mask with the Cobalt skull cap and with a regular ball cap, and it's no contest, the skull cap offers much better protection.

I purchased this, used it for the very first time and it came in handy, took a shot to the head on a foul tip and it did what it’s designed to do. It fits great as well.

This is a amazing product. Was not sure how it would react, and yes, I was waiting for that adult baseball foul tip. Well, received it Sunday night and didn't feel the head pressure which was normally felt. A great product!!!

I got the new All-Star Cobalt skull cap in the mail and couldn’t wait to try it out. It fits well and it feels comfortable. Even though it is hot and humid here in Florida, I think it’s a great investment.

I started using this because so many youth level backstops have concrete (where the ball comes back at us faster than it went by us) or those overhanging backstops where it can come straight down. This skull cap is more comfortable than a plain cap and safer. Not to mention I don't need 4-5 caps for a week as they get soaked (in sweat) and get the salt rings. Here in Arizona, we've been dealing with high 90's and low 100's already so staying cool is an advantage.

I made this purchase after sustaining a mild concussion behind the plate. I was amazed how well it fit and how light it was. The texture holds the mask perfectly.

I switched from a Hockey-Style Mask to the All-Star Cobalt Umpire Skull Cap and paired it with a Wilson Dyna-Lite Aluminum Mask. The transition has been an easy one as the Skull Cap stays put and I feel just as protected.

Started using the All-Star Cobalt Skull Cap in youth games with close or overhanging backstops. The skull cap is comfortable, not too heavy nor too hot. No issues with mask fitting or removing my mask during play. A good product that provides additional safety.

I had the opportunity to use my All-Star Cobalt Umpire Skull cap for a doubleheader a few days ago. I absolutely love this product. The fit is great. Not too tight. Not too loose. While (thankfully) the only thing that got close to the skull cap was a foul ball off the mask, I felt protected. The breathable vent holes made the mask comfortable to wear for the entire duration. Buy it. You will not be disappointed!!

The All-Star Cobalt umpire skull cap adds another layer of protection behind the plate. Works great with my Diamond mask. The exterior finish holds the straps tightly in place. As others have said, on top of the added protection, it is a good replacement for a sweaty, stained cap.

I just got a chance to use the Cobalt Skull Cap the other night. I like the feel, I think I would like to get a smaller insert and try it but love the feel. The only negative issue is that the seam around the edge of the bill of he helmet is very sharp. I will need to buff that down smooth, or I'll have a hand full of "paper cuts". I can see that he finish will mar rather easily, but I can deal with that.

After switching from a hockey style mask back to a standard umpire mask, I wanted the head protection and security I felt and this Cobalt Skull Cap is perfect. It certainly took some getting used to but, like anything else you figure out what works for you. If you want the piece of mind, I recommend this for sure.

Typically I’ve worn a Wilson Shock FX hockey style mask but the padding is no more so it was time to switch to a mask. I’ve been afraid to do so because I have a large head that a mask doesn’t fully protect. For reference I wear a size 8 New Era cap. I bought a Force3 mask that fully protects my face but left the top of my head exposed, so I tried the All-Star Cobalt Skull Cap and have not been disappointed. It fits great, the XL does fit larger than the advertised 7-5/8”, truly will fit a size 8 skull. The skull cap also has a textured, orange peel type of finish to it that really holds the masks harness into place with almost no movement. This skull cap looks great replacing the typical dirty, salt stained black cap I would otherwise wear if not for this skull cap. HIGHLY recommend for any umpire to try out, will not disappoint.

As I have aged, I have paid more attention to concussion prevention and I thought it was time to try the All-Star Cobalt Umpire Skull Cap. When I first tried it on after I received it, it tended to slide forward when I put my Force3 mask on. A little adjustment to the front padding of the skull cap has solved that problem. I like that the inner pads can be removed and placed in different positions for a custom fit. The marks that have appeared on the finish of the skull cap when I have been adjusting fit have rubbed off with water and a towel. Looking forward to using it in a game situation in the next month or so.

Would not normally be my preference but we have a couple of diamonds with lose netting over home plate to stop ball flying into neighbors properties. Balls come straight down on plate. I found it comfortable to use and very effective.

I really wanted this since I knew about the release and expected great things but the fit just wasn't right. Like another reviewer said it sits really high on my head. It felt tight and I wasn't crazy about the finish. It appears to mark easily. I reluctantly returned it today.

Traditionally, we play a lot of ball in domes in the winter and I needed better head protection than a baseball cap because of foul balls rebounding off the dome walls and previous concussions. I've worn the hockey-style mask, but no matter what I did I had fogging issues with my glasses and the weight was an issue. It didn't take long for this skull cap to pay for itself! Top of the 2nd inning the first game wearing the cap and a foul ball rebounded off the dome and hit me smack on top of the head. I have no doubt this cap kept me in the game! 100% recommend this product!

It wasn't for me. I tried both the XL and L and could not get either one to fit correctly. The helmet sat high on my head and was not secure at all. If I tipped my head down towards the ground the skull cap fell off. I wanted it to work, but it just didn't. Other reviews on the skull cap were great, so maybe it's just my head shape but I returned them both. Excellent customer service at Ump-Attire.com though. Couldn't be better.

Very comfortable, solid umpire skull cap. Can't wait to use it in a game (receive in early January). Interior padding is top notch and it works with both my Delta Flex and traditional mask harnesses very well (although I like using it with the Delta Flex better). Looking forward to being able to get the extra pads for multi-game days, plus it appears the hardshell is the same size, so having a mix of padding sizes will help customize it to my exact fit.

Great skull cap. I wore it for 4 games this weekend, very comfortable, did not stick to my mask once. I was worried that the skull cap would not be large enough, I wear a 7 3/4 to 8 cap, but the extra-large size fit well. It is about time umpires have a skull cap made just for them. The exterior of the cap gets very warm, doused it with water a few times. If you are on the fence, buy it, it is great.
