High quality umpire chest protector. Solid fitting and protects all the necessary areas. I'm just under 6' and got the 15". I do recommend getting a different harness (All-Star System 7 or the Wilson Premium replacement) as the harness it comes with will easily twist around and make it uncomfortable.
A very high quality, low profile umpire chest protector from Douglas. Would have been 5 stars if not for the unusually flat panels. As mentioned in other reviews, they do show under your shirt and it's a constant battle to use the hairdryer to get the edges to curve (and stay curved) around my torso. Once done, it feels really comfortable. I do agree that it needs a better harness. I switched out the manufacturer's one with the "UMPLIFE Flex Umpire Chest Protector Harness". It fits perfectly. Another plus is it makes it easier to put on and take off. I have not yet had the opportunity to "game test" the product because our season is delayed due to covid, and I expect to be totally satisfied. I will be updating my rating after I have used it in a game.
If this is essentially the 3-panel 15" Douglas hard shell rebranded for Smitty, then this is an awesome umpire chest protector, my favorite hard-shell over either Wilson. If you're tall, the 15" 3-panel protector will cover your lowest ribs and then some. I've taken shots above 90 mph (honest) and not felt a thing. Drawbacks: (1) the chest panels are kind of flat, and this protector will show under your shirt more than some others. I find myself continually trying to bend the ends to be more wrap around; (2) stock harness is just ok, get an All-Star Delta or Force 3 harness right away, both fit, and I've worn both with this protector. Did I say the Douglas is hands down my all-time absolute favorite hard shell?
Questions About This Product
|Q:||I'm 6' tall and want to know if the 15" is a good size for me?|
– Michael Hernandez
Yes, generally, umpires 6'0 and taller will find a comfortable fit in the 14"-15" range. To ensure your choice of the 15", measure from your neck down to where you want the bottom of the chest protector to be positioned. This is the length you would begin to search for in chest protectors. See more about sizing for a chest protector in our Fitting Room and this Crew How-To.– Ty Unthank
