Wilson MLB Platinum Umpire Shin Guards
Excellent umpire shin guards. Good fit and straps are easy to adjust to your fitting. Lightweight and comfortable.
Haven't got to try them yet, but they look and feel great trying them on. Pads are removable for easy cleanup. I ordered the West Vest chest protector for last season and glad to have the matching shins now.
Read all the great reviews and figured it was time to replace current shin guards. Unfortunately, received them and shelter in place order was enforced so have never gotten a chance to use them. Definitely felt good trying them on and sizing them up, for when we hit the field again.
After 3 seasons of messing around with umpire shin guards, I have landed on these. My Douglas pair wore out VERY QUICKLY and Squeaks like crazy at the D rings (Yes I've oiled, taped...blah blah) just too much work and I sounded like the Tin Man walking to the plate. So I ordered the Wilson and I am happy with these. I umpire at the High School level and after 50-60 games last season, they're doing the job.
A definite upgrade from guards I got with a starter kit!
St. Charles , IL
Love these as you don't feel any shots taken but I will say some of the straps have dug into my skin some but based on other reviews, maybe I have them on too tight? Overall they are fantastic.
I order the same pair 3 years ago and they are the most comfortable shin guards on the market. Ordered a new pair and love them!
Palm Coast, FL
Great quality, great weight. Really able to move and they look good under plate and combo pants. Highly recommend and of course customer experience at Ump-Attire.com was fantastic!
Palos Park , IL
Lightweight, comfortable, fit well if wearing combo pants plus I prefer the old time hook attachments vs the snap-ins that most shin guards now have.
Nice, lightweight and a good fit.
Great product. Fast shipping.
Love these Wilson Shin Guards. My second pair of them. Great fit, not bulky at all.
Prairie Farm, WI
Size was perfect. Nice, light weight and not bulky at all.

Best shin guards I have used in 20 years. Comfortable, lightweight easy to adjust and the removable padding allows you to wash as necessary. Also love the wrap around protection for the sides of your lower legs.
Great fit and very comfortable. Durable and protective much more than the average shin guard. A must have.
Love these umpire shin guards. My prior shins were a lot more bulky (very catcher's gear like) so these were a welcome change with a smaller footprint so to speak. Feel very protected with them on and have taken plenty of balls off of them and have never even felt a thing.
I am very pleased with this model. Extremely comfortable and easy to get in and out of. Detachable padding makes for easy cleaning. Great value for the price.
Really like these umpire shin guards! On my second pair! Honestly like these better then Force3 shin guards. Extremely comfortable and I don't feel confined or restricted when getting out from behind the plate! Highly recommend these shin guards!
Excellent Umpire Shin Guards! Super comfortable, breath well, and are easy to clean. I've already had them tested and barely noticed the ball make contact. So glad that I upgraded to these!
These shin guards are light weight and offer great protection. The padding is comfortable. I would highly recommend this to any umpire.
Very comfortable and lightweight shin guards. Took a fastball and it felt as almost nothing hit me. Would recommend to anyone.
North Port, FL
Very comfortable! Barely notice I have them on even under combo pants!
Great shin guards! I needed new ones after 15 years and shopped long and hard. So glad I went with these! You'll never want another pair!
These are a bit larger than I thought they would be but WOW. They are very lightweight and can make uncaught fastballs feel like Nerf balls. Very comfortable once broken in.
These are a great pair of shin guards once you get used to them. They are lightweight and breath nicely. It takes some time to get used to the different profile of these versus the gold shin guards.
Love these shin guards very light weight and fit over the new Smitty poly spandex pants with no trouble. Thanks Ump-Attire.com.
I've been wearing these for 6 professional seasons. I prefer them to other models because they are light weight but provide plenty of protection even against the worlds best fastballs.
A little bulky at the bottom but overall great protection.
17in fit exactly to size....have not worn yet in game conditions, however they are comfortable on over my plate pants.
I wear the mid top NB plate shoes so I ordered the 15" shin guards and they were too short. I should have taken the advice of the fitting room where it said you should start out thinking you need the 17" size. I was able to easily return to Ump-Attire.com at no charge for a full refund.

By far the best shin guards I've owned. I can't remember how many times I've taken hits that I haven't really felt because of the protection these guards provide. Both of the other guys I umpire with on a regular basis have purchased these after using lesser quality products and are as satisfied as I am.
Very comfortable shinguards. They seem to be a little bigger under the pant leg than my old ones. That's probably because of the increased padding. After removing the foot protector they fit perfectly with my plate shoes. (New Balance)
Wore these today for my game and took a shot directly to the shin - did not even know it hit me. Comfortable and light. Would definitely recommend you get yourself a pair of these umpire shin guards.
West Kingston, RI
These shin-guards are an upgrade for me. The fit is excellent and protection better than my previous pair. I like the hard side ankle/shin protection. They are lighter and more comfortable than I expected.
I had some MacGregor shin guards for about 10 years and while they have saved me from numerous shots to the legs, those do not even come close to how much better these Wilson shin guards feel. The first game I used them, I took 3 shots off the knee, shin and ankle and I did not feel a thing. They are a little heavy but are still very comfortable. I am very pleased with my decision to purchase these. I wish I would've bought them sooner. Excellent product.
Feel Great! Make sure you measure to get the right size.
Purchased and used these for the past two weekends now. Love them. Lots of padding wraps your lower leg and provides a lot of confidence that you aren't going to feel any foul balls, which is in fact the case. I have the platinum West Vest and both are excellent pieces of gear. I highly recommend these umpire shin guards, particularly in combination with the Platinum West Vest.
I read the reviews on this before I purchased, they were spot on great protection comfortable just the straps are too short.
These are great. I had been using some really old shin guards so these are a huge improvement. First time wearing them I took a fast ball directly off the knee and didn't feel a thing. I'm 6'3" and got the larger size and they fit well. They fit under my combo pants but are tighter than I like, so I will be ordering plate pants for next season. Very happy with them.
The very best umpire shin guards on the market!!! Light weight and comfortable.
These fit great and while bulky, they aren't too heavy. They offer great protection and the padding makes it comfortable against your leg. After holding these next to the Wilson Gold shin guards, I am a little disappointed that they do not come up the thigh quite as high. I'm sure the extra inch or so that the Gold has would have saved me a bruise or two. The lack of thigh coverage is the only reason I didn't give a full 5 stars.
Excellent buy. Never feel a shot to them.
These fit like butter. Besides not feeling a thing when hit, I can't tell you how nice it is to be able to wash the padding. The only thing you should look out for is the strapping. I by no means have thick legs, but still have to fully loosen the straps to fit. These straps are no match for someone with tree trunks for calves. As good as these puppies are, it's worth purchasing some larger straps if need be.
Wore a pair of these for 8 years, then gave them to a young umpire who's worn them for the last 2 years and still in them this year. Great protection, very comfortable, and obviously well made. After 8 years, the ankle pads were showing some wear, but still very serviceable. Replaced them with the Wilson Pros which took some getting used to with the triple knee and adjustable pads. The Pros are also a little heavier and warmer (good in cold games, a little hot in warm weather). Will probably buy another set of the Platinum Shin Guards for those hot days. Great shins!
Bought these to replace my System 7 umpire shin guards with the double knee that used to be sold on the site. The ones you see now are a single knee. When I crouched, the shin guards did not fit flush to my knee the way I was used to. They were fitting in the proper areas like what the model picture shows, and I made sure I had checked my size first, but I just did not feel like the top of my knee cap was safe. It would be one crazy shot to get hit there, but it was a concern being 6'2". I am swapping them out for the Wilson Pro shin guards, and I will review those when they arrive.
This was a no brainer. I wore these for several years and if there is a better shin guard for umpires I'd like to know about it...comfortable and never a worry about the protection they provide. Just ordered another pair and never considered other options. You cannot and will not go wrong here.
Bullet proof, enough said!!!
POMPANO BEACH, FL
This is the best product I ever bought, great quality, comfort and very light; if you want to take this job seriously, this is the best product for you!!!!
Bought these after using old set (which wasn't near as good quality) for many years. Best investment I ever made, the protection is great...barely even feel any impact from being hit by wild pitches or fouls.-Very comfortable fit, and I have been able to fit these under the Smitty combo pants....only issue is that you will need something to cover your legs if you wear them underneath the pants because they can become irritable to the skin. I would highly recommend this product to anyone that does a lot of plate umpiring. Well worth the price for great protection.
Worth every penny. Changed from Davis Shin Guards to these last year. I've been hit and felt nothing. These are so comfortable that it feels like you're not even wearing shin guards. Don't go cheap on an inferior product. Buy these guards.
Kansas City, MO
This was my first "top-of-the-line" shin guard that I purchased from ump-attire. I love the design of the shin guard and the padding on the guards, but they are fairly bulky. I have combo pants currently and they don't fit well under those, but I will be getting plate pants and I've been told they work a lot better under plate pants.
Belle Plaine, MN
I purchased these shin guards with the West Vest Gold earlier this year, well worth every penny, love them.
Had the Diamond Featherweights replaced them with the Platinum shinguards. The Platinums are the Big Leagues the Diamonds are good for Little League!
Just got these shin guards, and am very pleased. I am replacing the Wilson WV Pros (Black ones) and they are so much better. They are much lower profile, but offers the same protection. I find that I have much more mobility in these shins, compared to the WV Pros. You really feel bulletproof with these on.
Been wearing older leg guards and just received these Wilson Platinum LG yesterday. I wore them last night and they are sooo comfortable. I have combo pants and thses leg guards are low profile and fit so much better under combo pants. Took 1 shot of the shin and didn't even feel it. Love the Platinum gear
If you want superior protection and to be comfortable at the same time behind the plate, then these guards are for you. The padding inside the legs make them extremely comfortable while still allowing you to move around. Not to mention they are very protective. I do ages 13 and up baseball and I took several shots with feeling nothing.
These are great. I've been wearing them all spring and summer. They are very comfortable. I've taken some shots to them and barely felt anything. If you want top of the line these are the shin guards to get.
The Wilson Shin Guards are great. I recently worked a MABL/MSBL tournament and took a handful of shots off the guards without any problems.
I had tried the bigger brother to the CHA-17 and found them a bit too bulky and restraining. I call a lot of doubleheaders, and the CHA17 is quite a bit more comfortable during a long day of chasing the base paths after kids half my age or younger. The slimmer profile also fits in my plate pants better with less ride-up. All in all a better fit for me without sacrificing protection. I am very pleased with their performance.
They are great I know that me personally that I don’t have to worry about wearing socks under the shin guards cause I am able to wear ankle socks with the padding on the shin guards. These are one of the best products I have seen out.
San Francisco, California
I really love these shin guards. The expanded ankle plate has proved necessary as I have taken several shots on them and am grateful they were there. Excellent product.
I love the shin guards except for one thing. I wish they stayed together better at the knee joint where it is held in place with Velcro. This is a weak link in the armor, very flimsy attachment to be so highly priced and touted as approved by MLB....but, with that said I would not trade them except for an improved version…
I would have to give the product a very good overall rating for the time I had the shin guards. Now stating that, it was only a half season that I wore the shin guards but it was a huge upgrade compared to my old pair that I had replaced. The shin guards were conformable and I had easy movement with them as well. Protection was very good.
Shin guards are great.
Questions About This Product
|Q:||How do you measure for shin guards?|
– Shawn Jeffrey
Good question Shawn. Measure your leg from the center of your kneecap down to where the shin guards will rest on your plate shoes. This will result in your shin guard size. More details can be found in the "Fitting Room".– Ty Unthank
Customer Service Specialist, Pro Umpire School Graduate and Umpire
|Q:||I have had these now for quite some time. The top of my plate shoes have worn through when I wear these. Can you tell me what the problem is? Thank you. |
– Joseph Danielsen
From what you are describing Joseph, it sounds like your shin guards are too long which is causing them to rub against the top of your plate shoes as you work. Check out the Fitting Room for instructions on how to properly measure your legs to determine the appropriate size.– Staff Member
Ump-Attire.com Customer Service
|Q:||Do these have removable pads you can clean?|
– Kevin Collett
These shin guards do have a removable pad for cleaning. The pad should be wiped clean using a cloth with mild soap and water and air dried. It is not recommended to put the pad in the washing machine.– Josh Mann

|Q:||How hot are these pads? Are they suitable for summer months?|
– Chris Berti
|A:||The nylon shell the padding is in helps wick away moisture. These are suitable for the summer months.|
