Official Reviews
Rodger L. Lexington Park, MD |
Great timer but only concern is that I am afraid I might break the switch. Could be a little more durable. Wish it didn’t give you a fragile thought in your head. It does its job if there is no time at the facility you’re working at.
Scott Missouri |
It's a great product but like most things, you need to treat it gently. I wish the switch was more substantial, but it works and is easy to set up and program for your sport.
Al C. Hoffman Estates, IL |
Timer functions well, but the switch is fragile.
Kelly G. Wichita, KS |
This timer works great and must have for those facilities that don’t have on field timing devices yet. My only wish is that it had a 60 second setting for NFHS between innings.
Robert M. Newark, CA |
This is the second Refsmart timer I had to buy. I bought my first one directly through RefSmart then had to pay the $25 for the modification. The toggle switch ended up not working anymore. I tried contacting RefSmart by phone, email and text several times before giving up because they never responded. I decided to buy another one through Ump-Attire because their customer service is amazing. RefSmart must know that the original toggle was breaking because the new one, I received, has a shorter toggle.
Amber M. Arlington, TX |
Sometimes, the clock will continue counting even though it's in the neutral position. It's also difficult to open the cover and check the toggles. But overall it gets the job done for in between pitches and innings.
David A. St. Louis, MO |
Works really well, nice buzzer, easy to change for multiple sports.
Richard H. Arizona |
AZ is enforcing the pitch & between-inning clocks for HS baseball. This seemed a good choice. However, even though this is "configurable", the options are poor. And with so many leagues doing their own thing and rules constantly changing, this is a problem. This device needs to have independent settings for both the up & down switches, and needs to be much more customizable. It works well for our 20-second pitch clock, but between innings, it is useless. I must still carry a separate stopwatch. Also, for what it is, it is bulky and expensive. I don't think I'd buy it again.
Carlos S. Honolulu, HI |
Not the most sturdy timer. Drop it once and it is damaged. I also wish it had a stronger vibration. I can hardly tell when it goes off. Lastly, I wish it was smaller. It seems to me that in 2024, this type of device does not need to be as big as it is.
Stephen L. Eatontown, NJ |
This season is my first year working on a high school football officiating crew. This game timer allows me to time the 25/40 second play clock very easily from my field judge position. Been working great all season!
Dave L. Lake Stevens, WA |
The RefSmart timer is so easy to use! Some high schools have a play clock and others don’t. Being a first-time Back Judge, this has been so helpful! It came preset at 25/40 seconds, so no need to change it! Love it!
Kyle H. Fort Collins, CO |
I know it's expensive but if you work any college level with the action clock this is by far the absolutely easiest device for both pitch clock and between innings!
Kelly M. Wahpeton, ND |
This timer is a must for the college baseball umpire. It assists with the pitch timing, batter's box timing, and the in-between innings timing. It is an extremely effective tool to have on hand.
Carlos G. Florida |
Very comfortable doing the job.
Antonio V. Fairmont , WV |
This umpire/referee timer works great. Makes it a lot easier that looking at a stopwatch.
Mark H. Lexington, KY |
This device does a great job. I love that it can easily be switched to use for football. Strong vibration leaves no guessing about when the timer has been reached.
Ty B. Lexington, KY |
Works great so far. Takes some practice, maybe 2 innings worth, but once you get used to it it works great. Reprogramming to 120/20 was easy and instructions included. I do feel like the switch could be easy to damage while running, but hasn’t happened yet. May just be paranoid. Much better than a stopwatch or iwatch (which Inolanned to use).
Rodney L. Jackson, MS |
I purchased the RefSmart timer to use for college baseball. I don't know how I did it last year without the timer. This makes enforcing the timing rules so easy. Easy to manipulate. Great product.
Jacinto E. Tucson, AZ |
The RefSmart Timer is a handy apparatus. Lightweight and easy to program.
Gavin W. Virginia Beach, VA |
This is a great timer. Helps so much not having to look down at a stopwatch.
Joseph P. Virginia Beach, VA |
I finally grabbed one and right at the perfect time with the NCAA rule changes for the action clock. I am excited to use this on the field. I have used my partner's before and love it. You never have to take your eyes off the action. With the updated one, I was a little scared. I programmed it as it's shown; it initially was the "old" way. I toggled the switches and turned it off and on. Now it's working flawlessly. GREAT PRODUCT!
Michael O. Nephi, UT |
This is a must have for all back judges. I highly recommend this at all levels it allows you to not take your eyes off of what's happening rather than looking down to start your watch. Very good and I haven't had any issues.
Steven J. Mayfield, KY |
I held off on buying one of these until late this season and I regret not buying it way sooner! Makes it so much easier to keep track of timing duties and not have to worry about holding any stop watch or anything. Just flip a switch and boom, you are good to go.
Hoss M. Eutaw, AL |
Best call you can make so much better than holding a stopwatch. Had partner test it against his stop watch dead on every time.
Daniel B. Fayetteville, GA |
This product is a game changer. Frees your hands to move without a stop watch attached. The vibrations are perfect to allow you to manage your game without look down or anyone else hearing. Fantastic product, makes officiating easier.
James H. Montvale, VA |
Must have timer for all divisions of college baseball. Excellent product.
Paul M. Canton, MA |
Love it. Easy to operate and gives you the professional look on the baseball diamond. Lets you focus on the action instead of looking down at a stopwatch. Train yourself by watching a college game on TV with the timer on your belt.
Steven H. Roswell, NM |
Love it. Has audible beep and easy to use. 25 second and 40.
Bruce S. Zephyrhills, FL |
Much better than the watch method as long as you remember to switch it on. A little getting used to for up or down. Love it.
Bradley B. Rio Rancho, NM |
No need to look at a watch when you have this great tool. The buzz is clear and understanding. A must have if you are in charge of the play clock for your crew.
Mark R. Hingham, MA |
Good product for 20 sec, and 2 minutes but that's it. Wish it had a built in clock of some sorts as this doesn't remove the need of a watch for delays/injury timers.
David Simon Albany, NY |
I like this umpire/referee timer better than the watch, your not always looking down to check the time and missing a balk or something. I would recommend everyone to get this product.
Jack J. Spokane Valley, WA |
A middle school game I had in 2021, the referee and I swapped places for a quarter and with middle school there's no play clock present, so this was a huge help with keeping track of the play clock (it was a 3 man crew).
Michael K. White Bear Lake, MN |
This makes timing the 20 second action clock in college baseball so much easier. No need to be looking down at a watch and possibly missing a balk. I also do not have to worry about getting a watch back in my pocket as I am moving to call a play on the bases. This is a must for every college umpire, whether you work 2-man, 3-man or 4-man.
Bradley W. Big Lake, MN |
Bought one to make sure we had one for our crew. The Backjudge loved it immediately, so much easier than using a watch. Looking forward to having it for the upcoming lacrosse season as well.
Gerald W. Rineyville, KY |
I personally like the readyref better because you only have to think about one warning at 10 sec vs this one on a 40 sec you get a 15-sec warning then 10 and countdown. The good thing is it allows you to focus on the field and not look at a watch.
Trey P. El Paso, TX |
Works great. Easy to use. Good quality. Easier to use than the unit being supplied by most WAC schools.
Michael H. Palmyra, MO |
Easy to use and easy to program for college baseball. I have tested it out at home while I wait for my first game of the spring. There is no need to hold a stopwatch with this. Very good product to keep in the bag and allow yourself to keep both eyes on the field.
Keith S. Louisville, KY |
Very easy to use! Simple. Do not have to worry about looking down at your stopwatch to check the time and able to focus your attention on other pertinent matters on the field.
Carter T. Rocky Mount, NC |
Great product, beats a stopwatch hands down especially on the 20-second reset. Make sure you carry an extra set of AAA batteries. Needs a better more versatile timer adjustment. Worth the money for sure.
David M. Ringgold, GA |
Easy to handle and sounds are great. Still a little pricey.
Chris G. Lincoln, NE |
I had an opportunity to use this at a CBUA camp this year and had to get one for myself. This will come in handy with the newer rule changes in college baseball. It allows you to keep track of the pitch clock and between-inning time without taking your eyes off the field. It's a game-changer for sure.
Shane R. Sweetwater, TN |
Every back judge needs this in their bag. Very easy to operate. The alerts are spot on and are strong enough that you do not have to keep your hand on the box to feel them. I highly recommend this timer.
Elliot R. Columbus, GA |
Best money spent to help improve crew mechanics. A must have!!!
Jason P. Belle Plaine, MN |
What a great tool to have. You can not go wrong with purchasing one of these. Great asset to have out on the field. So happy I purchased one. Another great product from a great company.
Michael J. Mableton, GA |
So far this has been a great purchase! Easy to operate on the field and the interval warnings it provides are right in line with our mechanics for resetting the play clock and signaling players and coaches once we reach 10 seconds for both my NFHS and NCAA games. Must have for officials with play clock responsibilities!
Jeffrey P. Anaheim, CA |
Great referee timer, works great. I can't believe I went this long without one.
Chris F. Savannah, GA |
Very easy to re-program for football and lacrosse.
Peter S. Baldwin, NY |
Excellent tool for the new 25/40 clock for HS Football. Easy to use, won't turn on in your gear bag.
Jack G. San Antonio, TX |
This RefSmart timer is an excellent tool for keeping the 25/40 play clock and for one- minute timeouts. The on/off switch for the power is a good feature as the timer does not accidentally start in your bag. The belt clip is also a handy feature in that you do not need to thread the timer on your belt first. I recommend this tool when there is no 25/40 timer in the stadium and as a backup should there be a malfunction of the play clock.
Pollitt S. Glenside, Australia |
Lightweight and foolproof, vibration and audio settings are perfect for a busy football environment. Highly recommend this referee timer.
