All-Star System Seven Umpire Chest Protector

Let's put it this way: after two games with this chest protector, the Wilson Gold went on eBay. Not that the Gold is poor - if it were an inch or two longer I'd keep it. But it left my lowest rib exposed. The 15" in All-Star not only fixed that problem but fits so much better. The precurved shoulders distribute the weight better and keep the CP perfectly in place with no sag. My collarbone thanks you! Plus, I don't have to keep the harness as tight, which also is more comfortable to me as I hate it when it's too constrictive. The CP is a bit tight around the neck but I don't have a thick neck so not much of a problem for me but I can see how it would be for some. It's not quite as padded as the Gold but seems to be a bit cooler on hot days. Overall, if the Gold fits, get a Delta Flex harness and go with that. But an exposed rib is a non-starter for me. The All-Star is a fabulous CP and worth the money. I'd rate it at 4.5 stars, with a tiny deduction purely for the neck tightness and slightly thinner padding.

Recently I suffered a concussion from umping a game where I took two shots to the mask just one day after catching in an adult game where I took one shot to my mask. So that made three foul shots in a 24 hour period. The next day, I woke up with concussion-like symptoms and had the concussion confirmed. It was my first concussion and I was scared of how much damage it caused. While taking a few weeks off as per doctor's orders, I decided to look for a new hockey-style mask. Thank God I found the F3. I feel like Superman in this mask. I purchase the red and silver model but it ought to be red and blue like Superman's costume because the balls bounce off of the mask like bullets off of Superman's chest. This mask feels secure, is comfortable and easy to put on with one hand. It has plenty of ventilation and excellent sight lines. My second game back was a varsity baseball game. I took a foul ball in the slot off the mask. The ball bounced off the mask like it hit a trampoline. There was zero - absolutely no - impact on me. Later that game another foul ball off the mask. Same thing. The springs bounced the ball off the mask and I had no issues whatsoever. I sincerely believe this mask saved me a trip to the hospital and what I feel certain would have been a concussion. While I hope the run of foul balls off my mask is over, I know the F3 will protect me. I love this mask!!
