It offers a great deal of protection, although it doesn't do much for anything below the ribs. I've taken a few bounces into just below the sternum that have hurt a bit, but you can't feel anything off the chest or shoulders. My only gripe is how bulky it is. Neither my pullover or my fleece will fit over it, and they are both a bit baggy when I'm wearing them on the bases. After a little bit it will also start pulling my shirt up, so I have to use a flex belt to keep my shirt in place. The other bonus is that it makes me look totally buff, and with shin guards and plate shoes I feel like RoboCop walking onto the field.
