If you routinely work a 4-man crew (never have to run/hustle up to 3rd or up the line), and you want heavy huge bulletproof shin guards with maximum coverage, then these get 5 stars. However, if you don't want to look like Gumby, hate hook straps that rust (vs. snap-clips), don't need a metatarsal plate because you have plate shoes, need to be able to run and hustle, then there are much better options. Personally, I'd give the Force 3 shin guards 6 stars, the Wilson Platinums 3.5, and haven't used any of the others available for sale. I originally bought these my 1st year, thinking I needed the absolute best protection for LL--and I was afraid :-) 10 years later, I wish someone had steered me in a different direction starting out. I've taken 85-90 mph+ shots off the Force 3 shin guards and never felt a thing. Those, you don't even know you have them on. These, you can't ever forget you have them on.

I'm 6'1, I needed the extra length to protect above my knees. I had the Wilson platinum shin guards and didn't cover my upper knee and got hit there a couple times. These are bigger and I feel more protected. These are the gold standard shin guards, especially for taller umpires!

These umpire shin guards are the real deal. A lot of protection and very comfortable! They are a bit bulkier than the platinum pair but I don't feel any mobility issues with them. I am looking forward to using them this season!
Questions About This Product
Q: | I've had these shin guards for a few years, and I really enjoy them. But both the clips and the rings they clip to have heavily rusted. What causes this, and is there a way to fix it? – John Uhal |
A: | Moisture and exposure to the air combined will eventually rust these metal pieces. Best practice is to wipe down your gear after each use and store in a dry area. – Ty UnthankCommunication & Service Specialist, Pro Umpire School Graduate and Umpire |
