Wilson MLB West Vest Platinum Umpire Chest Protector
THE OFFICIAL 2-MINUTE REVIEW: Wilson MLB West Vest Platinum Umpire Chest Protector
Questions About This Product
|Q:||Can you get replacement straps for the west vest?|
- Matt Brestle
|A:||You can replace the harness and straps for the West Vest, but not with the original Wilson harness. The Force3 Universal Chest Protector Harness and the All-Star Delta Flex Harness are both excellent choices for a replacement. There is a blog on the bottom of this product page with step by step instructions of how to replace your chest protector harness.|

|Q:||Between the Wilson platinum and the gold which is more breathable? What is the weight difference between the Wilson platinum and the gold?|
- Gene Mahon
|A:||Both the Wilson Platinum and Gold chest protectors are considered "high end" chest protectors. The construction and materials used on each are similar to each other. The Platinum is a bigger chest protector, more plastic and more padding; it's not going to breathe as well as the Gold; but, both have been built for safety and comfort. Both chest protectors are the same weight. MLB umpires endorse the Wilson line, and both the Platinum and the Gold are worn at that level. If these chest protectors were too hot, MLB umpires wouldn't be endorsing and using the product.|

|Q:||Can I get an extension to better cover the abdomen?|
- Edward Zubal
|A:||I'm sorry Edward, but the Wilson Platinum umpire chest protector does not have anywhere to attach an abdomen extension. The Force3 V2 Ultimate chest protector, Schutt XV chest protector, Diamond iX3 chest protector, and both Champro Pro-Plus Plate Armor and Pro-Plus Umpire chest protector are compatible with adding an abdomen extension. If you are asking as a tall person looking for adequate coverage, the buying guide for chest protectors has a very good section on the chest protectors recommended for taller umpires.|

This is the best chest protector I have ever owned. Fits great and does not slide down or rub against my neck.
Great chest protector, loud on impact but can't feel a thing.

I had the Champion style body armor chest protector for about 12 years and finally made the switch. I used my West Vest the first time this weekend. I felt really bulky with it, only because I wasn't used to the size of it. With that being said this is a solid chest protector and does what it is supposed to. In combination with my mask and throat guard, I took a foul ball straight back and it hit the throat guard and the extra padding on the vest kept the throat guard in place. This is a great piece of equipment.
